We Need to Get Going on Hwy 92 Wildlife Crossings

by Virginia Leffler

Over the last two weeks I have counted eight dead elk or deer along Highway 82 between Snowmass Canyon and the Aspen airport — it is heartbreaking. This means there are at least eight people who have been traumatized with wrecked vehicles and I hope no physical injuries.

When are the Pitkin Board of County Commissioners and Pitkin County Open Space going to move forward on building wildlife crossings that have been proven to work at preventing more than 90% of wildlife-vehicle collisions?

Every day I make the commute, I am thankful to get back and forth from downvalley safely. There are great solutions available to help both people and animals — let’s all get behind Roaring Fork Safe Passages and get these underpasses and overpasses going!

Letter to the Editor in the Aspen Daily News.
